FULLTIME LECTURER -DEPT. OF EARTH SCIENCE & GEOGRAPHY, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, DOMINGUEZ HILLS
The faculty of the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a Lecturer position in the Department of Earth Science & Geography. Appointment to begin in August 2017.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will have a record of teaching excellence and a commitment to teaching undergraduate students from a diverse population. As a full-time lecturer, the expected teaching load will be four courses per semester involving a range of general education, introductory and upper division courses for both programs (i.e., EAR and GEO). In addition, the successful candidate will be willing to advise undergraduate students and perform service within the Department and College.
Department and College
The Department of Earth Science & Geography, College of Natural and Behavioral Science offers separate undergraduate degrees in both Earth Science and Geography. Both programs feature a strong emphasis on understanding the natural world and human management of its natural resources. We also offer minors in Earth Science and Geography and a certificate in Geotechniques (which includes GIS and remote sensing). The Department emphasizes field activities and hands-on experiences for undergraduate students. Many of our courses include field trips which provide opportunities for students to experience firsthand the topics covered in the classroom. Our programs promote the development of an informed citizenry for wise decision-making on issues related to natural resources, environmental quality, and sustainability, and provide technical training for entry into careers which pursue those emphases.
- Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D. awarded prior to start of employment) in earth science, physical geography or other closely related field. Specialization is open, although preferences include experience with service learning and/or engaging the local community in citizen science. An M.S. degree will be considered in exceptional circumstances.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience and a willingness to participate in service to the department.
- Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
