Finding a safe operating space for humankind requires understanding how the Earth system reacts to environmental perturbations. Motivated by this need, the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Southern California seeks exceptional researchers for a tenure-track faculty position(s) at the assistant professor level in the area of global environmental change (broadly defined). We welcome applications from scholars investigating environmental perturbations and their effects using observations (in situ or remotely-sensed), modeling, theory, and/or experiments. We are particularly interested in candidates studying the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere and/or biosphere, including their interactions and evolution, as well as their connections to the solid Earth.
The successful candidate(s) will join a multidisciplinary department with strong ties to the Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, as well as the LA County Natural History and La Brea Tar Pits museums. Located in central Los Angeles, USC serves a transnational student body and provides numerous opportunities to engage the local community in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach in the Department of Earth Sciences, with opportunities to contribute to a growing curriculum in environmental science. Diversity, equity and inclusion are core values at USC (https://diversity.usc.edu/), and in our department. Candidates from traditionally under-represented minority groups are encouraged to apply; all candidates, regardless of minority status, should demonstrate a commitment to advancing those ideals in their research, teaching and/or service.
Interested researchers should hold a PhD or equivalent degree, and submit their applications by December 15th 2020, as a single pdf file, including: a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a statement of research, a statement of teaching, a statement on diversity, equity and inclusion, and the contact information of 3-5 references. In order to be considered for this position, applications should be submitted electronically at: https://usccareers.usc.edu/job/los-angeles/assistant-professor-in-global-environmental-change/1209/17868768 . For more information, please contact Prof Julien Emile-Geay (email@example.com), chair of the search committee.
