San Francisco State University, Department of Earth & Climate Sciences offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Hydrology beginning August 2019 (Search #24.18). We seek a colleague whose research and teaching interests include the interactions between hydrology, climate, and earth and environmental systems, broadly construed. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. 

The Department of Earth & Climate Sciences (E&CS) (http://tornado.sfsu.edu) has nine tenured/tenure‐track faculty and five lecturers. It offers a BS degree in Earth Sciences, with emphases in Hydrology, Geology, and Ocean, Weather and Climate; a BA degree in Earth Sciences; and a MS degree in Geosciences. Together, these programs enroll 75 undergraduate majors and 20 MS students. E&CS houses Students for Sustainable Water (https://sfsuwater.org/), an X‐Ray Fluorescence (XRF) lab, the Electron Microscopy Facility, and several classrooms and student spaces equipped with computers for instructional use. Other available facilities include the Sierra Nevada Field Campus (http://www.sfsu.edu/~sierra/), the University’s environmental field station; and the Estuary & Ocean Science Center (http://eoscenter.sfsu.edu/).

Responsibilities: The position requires developing an outstanding, nationally recognized research program in their area(s) of specialty, securing external funding, creating research collaborations with faculty in E&CS and other departments at SFSU, undergraduate and graduate teaching in environmental hydrology, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, and engaging in committee and service assignments. Teaching duties may include Surface Water Hydrology, Environmental Water Resources, California Water, or other undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.  Detailed position description is available online at http://tornado.sfsu.edu/

Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in a physical science or engineering discipline related to environmental hydrology. Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
