POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - GLOBAL SEISMOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE

We would like to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to strengthen our research team in global seismology at the University of Cambridge for a fixed term of 24 months.  Our team works on revealing the heterogeneity and dynamics of the deep Earth. We mostly work with seismic body waves to reveal new observations of deep seismic heterogeneity. Subsequently, we often work with mineral physicists and geodynamicists to understand the implications of our observations. Potential projects include zooming in on LLSVPs, or potential heterogeneity on either side of the core-mantle boundary. A research project will form in discussion with PI Cottaar based on the interests and (aspired) skills of the candidate, and current work in the team.

The successful candidate must either have, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. seismology, geophysics). We are looking for a candidate with experience in body-wave seismology, computational seismology, and/or inverse theory; a good understanding of scientific questions relevant to the deep Earth; a track record of publication in peer-reviewed international journals; and good communication skills in order to present results at international meetings.
