The State University of New York College at Cortland is accepting applications for an instructional support technician to support the Geology and Physics departments. This is a fulltime professional staff position.
The instructional support technician provides skilled, specialized assistance to SUNY Cortland community (faculty, staff, students) in instructional research and educationally related programs or projects including dedicated instructional support to the Geology and Physics departments; with emphasis on introductory laboratories in Geology plus the meteorite lab for Physics.
A bachelor’s degree in geology, physics or a related science is required along with a valid NY state driver’s license and evidence of successful completion of courses and associated labs in introductory geology and physics. Preference may be given to candidates with a master’s degree in geology or a related geoscience; experience with operation, routine maintenance and problem diagnosis for teaching and research equipment (e.g. petrographic and binocular microscopes, rock saws, planetarium, physics lab equipment, automated weather station, XRD (x-ray diffractometer), SEM (scanning electron microscope), ion chromatography, etc.); experience with lab safety and hazardous waste management principles; experience with scheduling, ordering supplies and equipment, inventory control and reporting.
