The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology seeks a broadly-trained geologist with expertise in sedimentary/depositional processes and basin analyses, particularly as they relate to energy resource development. The successful candidate, based in the Bureau’s Billings office, will provide research and public service related to Montana’s subsurface geology. This will include evaluation of sedimentary basins for coal and petroleum resource assessments, generating stratigraphic correlations and subsurface maps, and management and analysis of lithologic and geochemical data. Duties will include participation in applied geology projects conducted by the MBMG, working alone or as part of a team, to investigate the mineral potential of coalbeds, coal waste streams, and sediments within sedimentary basins. Additional duties will include designing new research projects, writing proposals, presenting research results at scientific meetings, and presenting to federal/state agencies and the public.
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree plus 3 years’ experience or a Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field.
