RESEARCH ASSOCIATE-GLOBAL SEISMOLOGY (FIXED TERM), UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
We would like to appoint a postdoctoral researcher in global seismology at the University of Cambridge. The postdoctoral researcher will be working on small-scale structure in the Earth's mid-mantle, using a (pre-existing) global data set of receiver functions. The postdoc will apply various stacking techniques, and some previous experience on comparable techniques is preferred. Any observations of mid-mantle heterogeneity will be interpreted in terms of mineral physics and in relation to global dynamics, to understand their role in global mantle convection.
The successful candidate must either have, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. seismology, geophysics). We are looking for a candidate with experience in body-wave seismology, good communication skills in order to present results at international meetings and preferably a track record of publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
There is some flexibility about the starting date but we would hope that the successful applicant will be appointed to start by summer 2018. The postdoc will be strongly encouraged to contribute to the design of a museum exhibit on the Deep Earth.
