The Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Digital Earth Sciences, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2020.
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. The successful candidate will be required to make substantive contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek applicants with a strong interest in developing, applying, and integrating digital and data science methods to problems in Geoscience and Geoengineering. A wide range of theoretical, software, and hardware approaches are welcomed. The successful candidate will develop a research program focused on Earth science problems which may include processes in the deep earth, lithosphere, and/or surface approaching these via methods such as remote, crowd or in-situ sensing, numerical modelling, database development and analysis, data mining, artificial intelligence, visualization, and AR/VR development. The successful candidate will develop an externally funded research program in the broad field of digital Earth Science and will be encouraged to collaborate with existing researchers in the Department to develop new research opportunities. In keeping with the departmental strength in field-based learning, a willingness to undertake field research and teaching will be considered an asset. Current registration as, or eligibility to register as a P.Geo or as a P.Eng is expected.
