VISITING PROFESSOR/ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF GEOLOGY - BOWDOIN COLLEGE

The Bowdoin College Geology Department invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor position to begin Fall 2008. The selected applicant will teach Investigating Earth (intro) and a course for non-majors in the fall semester, and in the spring semester will teach Mineralogy and a seminar in the applicant’s specialty. There also will be an opportunity to mentor students in honors and independent-study research. Ph.D. preferred but ABD applicants are encouraged to apply. Salary is competitive.

The Geology Department has a strong commitment to innovative teaching and research, particularly research that engages undergraduates. Coastal and inland rock exposures and quarries near campus provide outstanding opportunities for field laboratories to examine igneous, metamorphic, and deformed minerals and rocks. Instrumentation includes a SEM/EDS/EBSD that is available for research and class use. For further information about the department, please see our website http://academic.bowdoin.edu/geology/.

Candidates should electronically submit a letter of application, CV, a statement of teaching and research, and three letters of reference to Ed Laine, Associate Professor of Geology, at edlaine@bowdoin.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Bowdoin is a highly selective liberal arts college on the Maine coast with a diverse student body made up of 25% students of color, 4% international students and approximately 15% first generation college students.

Bowdoin College is committed to equality and diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage inquiries from candidates who will enrich and contribute to the cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic diversity of our college.
